What should I do if the distance of the network cable installed in the monitoring project is greater than 100m? What about the 200 meter distance?
Friends doing monitoring engineering may encounter such problems: Poe power supply distance is generally ≤ 100m, but the actual demand may be 200m, 300m or further.
We know that the reasonable transmission distance of both super class 5 and class 6 network cables is about 100m. Even class 6 standard network cables can only be about 120m at most. Ordinary network cables can not exceed 90m in engineering construction.
But how to solve the problem that the distance of 200 meters needs to be transmitted or the distance is too long in the middle?
1, Optical fiber transmission, adding optical fiber transceiver
For long-distance network cable transmission, the attenuation of network signal is too large. If the distance exceeds 300m, a pair of optical fiber transceivers can be added in the middle. With optical fiber transmission, the signal is smooth and stable.
Optical fiber transceivers also need to be paired. The transmitting port (TX) of the transceiver at one end is connected to the receiving port (Rx) of the transceiver at the other end. Optical fiber transmission is used between transceivers, and the camera terminal is connected with the transceiver through a switch. This networking mode is also applicable to large monitoring covers, and its excellent performance is widely used.
2, Use switch
The longest transmission distance of category 5 and category 6 network cables is 100m. If the transmission distance needs to be increased, switch equipment can be installed between two twisted pair cables, and theoretically, up to 4 switches can be installed. If 4 switches are installed to connect 5 network segments, the theoretical maximum transmission distance can reach 500m.
When the distance of monitoring items exceeds 100m, we add a switch in the middle for relay, then the transmission distance will be extended by 100m.
For a long distance of 300m or 500m, adding multiple switches can also solve the problem, but the signal will be unstable after three levels of switches.
Therefore, the best way to add switches is to add only two switches to solve the transmission problem within 300 meters.
